The innovative technology of cutting blade material promotes the development of processing industry Release time:2020-08-12 Time to browse
Over the past seven decades, the manufacturing industry has undergone an unprecedented technological revolution, in which the amount of metal parts processed has increased by hundreds of times while the processing time has been greatly reduced. By increasing the metal removal rate, prolonging the blade life of the slitting machine, reducing the number of shutdowns, improving the tool disassembly convenience, improving the operation performance, thus greatly reducing the processing cost.

Metal cutting is an important part of industrial production. By improving production efficiency, technological innovation in this field plays a very positive role in the development of the whole economy. It can promote social prosperity and improve the quality of life.

Tool material, especially hard alloy, is one of the most important factors in metal cutting. This is because during metal processing, the performance of cutting edge plays a very important role in improving the production efficiency of the whole manufacturing industry.

As an industry pioneer, Sandvik Colman has been accelerating the pace of material research and development since the 1950s, and has successively introduced a large number of innovative technologies.

Modern cutting tools came into being

At the beginning of the 19th century, all metalworking companies had to make their own tools or buy non-standard ones. There is no standard procedure for cutting tools and solutions. Tool material is mainly high-speed steel, welding carbide tool gradually began to use. Since then, machine tools, equipment, numerical control and cutting tools have developed by leaps and bounds, and the production efficiency and processing quality level have been significantly improved.

Sandvik's coke production has doubled since it began introducing indexable knives in the 1950s. We start from the idea of ready-made standardized tools, all the way leading the new trend of high-tech tools and processing methods. In the research and development of manufacturing process, also need tool material innovation, need material science and technology knowledge. By making full use of the tool material, we set and achieved the material objectives during the manufacture of the blade.

  Quality and Innovation

Sandvik was known to get involved in metal cutting in 1942. Sandvik Coke is based on the business philosophy of developing cemented carbide as a quality tool material. The synthetic tool material has been known for decades, but its applications to make full use of its properties have been limited, mainly for drilling rocks. Cemented carbide's subsequent success, however, is all down to a succession of innovations. By 1943, Sandvik had developed six new alloy cutting tool materials, and a decade later it had developed up to a dozen optimizable metal-cutting materials, such as welding tools, for a variety of applications.

Controlling the quality of the carbide used in cutting tools was an initial technical challenge for Sandvik Coke, and it was a result of constant communication with customers. In 1954, Sandvik Coke set up a special cemented carbide factory, introduced a large number of research and development facilities, in order to achieve strict quality control, took the most critical step. Quality control has always been regarded as an important cornerstone of The Cola man knives worldwide.

In 1957, Sandvik Coke introduced the first series of indexable blade Cutter T-Max turning tools. Although the market of indexable blades was small at the beginning, the application of blade tool system was promising when some manufacturing giants began to adopt such blades, and it developed rapidly in the future. The workshop has adopted efficient and productive processing techniques, eliminating the need for reground welding tools.

The early (1956) innovation in uncoated materials was the world's first productivity booster for a blade material called Coromant S1 Premium. S1P greatly improves cutting parameters and extends service life, leading in the lathe industry, incomparable, greatly shorten the processing time of finishing and light rough machining. At the same time, the use of high-quality tools for turning all kinds of steel and even alloy cast iron, without any coolant. This material is especially suitable for the indexable blade, which really makes the industry personnel eye-opener, and look forward to improving the processing environment through tool material innovation.

In the 1960s, blades and materials were developed for other applications, such as milling, drilling and thread cutting. By 1963, coke was available in 18 (non-coated) blade materials, covering a variety of areas in the processing industry.
